The evidence-based Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe, or CH SUBS, child abuse prevention curriculum is celebrating new milestones. In an effort to enhance the curriculum and expand its reach, CH SUBS has been fully translated into Spanish and added alignments with national standards.

Fully translated into Spanish

For several years, the Speak Up Be Safe curriculum for grades pre-K–12 has had many materials available in Spanish, such as lesson scripts and facilitator training modules. And now, the complete package of trainings, lessons and resources are completely available in Spanish. This full translation includes the Childhelp Human Trafficking Prevention module for grades 6–12, as well. Users can easily change the language setting in the learning management system. Moving forward, each enhancement will be available in both English and Spanish.

ASCA and NHES aligned

The Childhelp SUBS curriculum has long been aligned with the Common Core State Standards and, more recently, with the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) Student Standards: Mindset & Behaviors for Student Success. This ASCA alignment is now incorporated into the Childhelp Human Trafficking Prevention module. With school counselors making up a significant percentage of CH SUBS facilitators, this alignment simplifies documenting how our program equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for success in school and life.

Additionally, the core curriculum for pre-K–12 is now aligned with the National Health Education Standards (NHES). States and school districts nationwide utilize NHES to foster holistic student development and maintain consistency and quality in health education. The CH SUBS team is proud to be an early adopter of the recently updated standards, aiding health, P.E. and other educators in demonstrating progress toward the 2024 standards through teaching CH SUBS personal safety lessons.
