Childhelp is thrilled to announce the launch of the Adopt-a-Therapy-Horse program, a new initiative designed to support Childhelp’s life-changing equine therapy. This program offers a unique way for supporters to make a direct impact on the lives of children healing from the trauma of abuse and neglect, while also ensuring the care and training of our incredible therapy horses.
Why equine therapy?
Horses are extraordinary animals, known for their sensitivity and ability to connect with humans on a deep emotional level. For children who have experienced abuse, working with horses can be a calming, empowering, and healing experience. Equine therapy helps children develop trust, communication skills, self-confidence, and emotional resilience — essential tools for their recovery.
The magic of equine therapy lies in the special bond formed between child and horse. These gentle giants mirror emotions, providing a safe space for children to express themselves, learn coping mechanisms, and rediscover joy.
Meet the horses
Each horse in our program has a story and a purpose. They are not just animals but partners in the healing process. From Tucker, a wise and patient pony who adores being bathed and having his mane braided, to our boss mare Rizzo, who excels in teaching boundaries, trust and patience, every horse plays a vital role in a child’s recovery.
By adopting a horse, you provide the resources needed for their care, training and participation in therapy sessions, ensuring they can continue to make a difference in children’s lives.
How does adoption work?
Adopting a horse is a symbolic way to support our equine therapy program. Your generous contribution helps cover the costs of:
- Veterinary care and feed
- Equipment and stable maintenance
- Training to ensure the horses are prepared for therapy sessions
In return, you’ll receive a certificate of adoption, updates on your chosen horse, and the satisfaction of knowing you’re making a tangible difference. Your kindness and generosity are changing lives — one horse, one child and one step at a time.
