For most, a toy is a simple joy — something we take for granted or treasure as a memory from childhood. But for children who have experienced trauma, a toy can be so much more: a symbol of safety, a source of comfort and a reminder of resilience through life’s toughest times. For these children, a toy can become a lifeline of hope.

Recently, a woman who received care though Childhelp 30 years ago, reached out. She came to Chidhelp when she was just seven years old and here time here had stayed with her all of those years. As she shared her journey, she recounted struggles, hardships and accomplishments she never thought possible. And then, she asked, “Do you know what I’m holding right now? It’s the stuffed teddy bear I received when I arrived at Childhelp.”

She had held onto this small gift, and it had become a reminder of her resilience and strength. She spoke of other memories she had of her time at Childhelp, such as learning techniques to manage anxiety and positive self-talk — skills she uses today.

For a survivor, a simple toy or stuffed animal can be a symbol of hope and a reminder of a safe place where healing began. This holiday season, Childhelp’s toy drive offers a chance to give that gift of hope and comfort to more children in need. Join us as we bring hope and joy to abused and neglected children. Every year, approximately 700,000 children in the U.S. experience abuse. Your generous donation of a new and nonviolent toy or clothing can make a world of difference.
